The big question going into 12 Monkeys Episode 303 wasn’t if Cassie would be rescued, that was obvious from the promo pics Syfy released, but rather if Olivia would provide valuable intel. Also, what’s she getting out of all this?
I liked that Jones warned they needed to know which Ramse they were dealing with. Cole’s “brother” is a questionable character you can never quite trust. Who’s side was he on now, really? I’ll never forgive the guy for working with the army of the 12 Monkeys to set the plaque in motion, regardless of the fact he was protecting his son and timeline. One life for billions, you know? The numbers just don’t add up. Plus, this installment is titled “Enemy” so does that refer to the Guardians or Ramse/Olivia?
Jennifer calling Olivia a chameleon and warning that she’s not someone whose ever been anywhere she didn’t want to be, planted a seed of doubt. Alisen Down has been outstanding on this series, but locking her up like some sort of Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs is really going to allow the actress to shine. I love her calm demeanor, soothing voice and that wicked smile. There’s always something going on behind those eyes, you know? You can just see the wheels turning. Which reminds me, including the story of how she was “made” was a great way for newbies to get up to speed.
Jones struggled to believe Ramse (can you blame her?), until he told her that Sam had died. He had lost his son twice, and wanted the Witness dead as much as any of them. His story made sense, so I couldn’t imagine he’d remain locked up for long. Now Olivia, that’s a whole other story. Looks like she’s going to be in that cage for a while, if Jones has anything to say about it. The splintering torture was pretty brutal, even for Olivia. Still, she didn’t understand Dr. Grimm meant business. Cole locking her in that dungeon 3 months did the trick though, or did it? Again, Jennifer’s words haunt me. Was this all part of Olivia’s master plan?
Deacon’s (Todd Stashwick) story was interesting. I had written him off for dead. I mean, how could he have survived that Julius Caesar style stabbing? Enter Mallick, who I still couldn’t understand at that point. He claimed to be neither friend nor enemy, yet he saved Deacon’s life. What did he want from the Scav King? I imagine we’ll find out soon enough. Yeah rehab was a bitch, with his father’s ghost tormenting him. I found myself curious to see what role Deacon will play this season. Either way, this was some of Stashwick’s best work on the series to date. Having finally defeated his demons, it was Deacon that rescued Cassie from her imprisonment. Where do they go from here?
When Olivia was finally shown some kindness, she proved ready to talk. She called the Guardians “teachers” and “protectors” meant to raise the Witness. The adult Witness would return to the army of the 12 Monkeys at Titan to bring on the forest of red. Therefore, she was providing accurate information. Olivia talked of a single opportunity to kill the Witness. Was there truth to her story that in 2007 the Witness might be taken down? Well, Cole and Ramse were heading there to find out.
This episode was a little slower than the first two, but it was a definite stepping stone as far as character development for Deacon and Olivia. Both actors brought their “A” game, and I’m glad they got a chance to shine. Also, Ramse knowing that the Witness is Cole’s son causes a whole new set of problems. Yup, he was in cahoots with Olivia after all. So while Cole thinks he’s going to 2007 to kill the Witness, Ramse is headed their to take out Cassie. It’s cliffhangers like this, that make me happy Syfy decided on a binge-a-thon for Season 3. We don’t have to wait to find out what happens next, just keep watching the next hour.
What did you think of these latest turn of events? Will Ramse attempt to take out Cassie in 2007, or will he and Cole figure out another way. Their conversation about family came accross as completely heartfelt. Share your thoughts on Olivia’s manipulations, Deacon’s return and the fate of Dr. Railly with me below. I love the feedback, guys! Bring on Episode 304!!!
