American Gods: SXSW Panel and Official Trailer

Damn the first official trailer for American Gods is insane! That minute and a half definitely made me even more excited for the show’s premiere.

This past weekend the first episode of the new series was screened to thunderous applause at SXSW in Austin, Texas. Following the world premiere, the cast and crew discussed the series and shared little tidbits about the story/characters. Present were showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, as well as cast members Ricky Whittle, Ian McShane, Emily Browning, Pablo Schreiber, Crispin Glover, Yetide Badaki, Bruce Langley, Orlando Jones, Jonathan Tucker and Betty Gilpin. The pilot was directed by David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night) who is also responsible for the incredible visual style of NBC’s Hannibal, as he set the tone directing that pilot as well. Personally, I could not be more excited about American Gods!

Check out the new trailer, and watch the full SXSW panel below for more insight into the series.

Here is the show’s official description released by STARZ.

When Shadow Moon is released from prison, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday and a storm begins to brew. Little does Shadow know, this storm will change the course of his entire life. Left adrift by the recent, tragic death of his wife, and suddenly hired as Mr. Wednesday’s bodyguard, Shadow finds himself in the center of a world that he struggles to understand. It’s a hidden world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods, like Technology and Media. Mr. Wednesday seeks to build a coalition of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America, and reclaim some of the influence that they’ve lost. As Shadow travels across the country with Mr. Wednesday, he struggles to accept this new reality, and his place in it.

American Gods premieres Sunday, April 30th at 9/8c on Starz.
