Frakkin’ finally! Seems like Doctor Who has been off the air for ages. Well, new episodes are just a month away.
The official artwork and trailer for the new season have been released, and boy does it look like Capaldi’s going to have a blast throughout his final adventures in the Tardis. In case you’re unaware, the Doctor will regenerate this year, bringing Peter Capaldi’s time as the Time Lord to a close. Longtime showrunner Steven Moffat will be stepping down as well, making room for Chris Chibnall (Torchwood, Broadchurch) to take the reigns. Talk about fresh starts, it’s a total reboot! Before all that though, Capaldi and new companion Pearl Mackie (Bill) have tons of work to do. Including an encounter with the Mondasian Cybermen (Capaldi’s favorite old-school version of the Doctor Who big bad), who haven’t been featured in their classic “look” on the series for over fifty years. They are set to return in Episodes 11 and 12 of Capaldi’s finale season. Sounds cool, right?
New episode titles that have been released so far are: “The Pilot,” “The Haunted Hub,” “Extremis,” and “The Eaters of Light.”
Immediately following the season premiere of Doctor Who, Capaldi makes a guest starring turn in the spinoff “Class.” Class is set in Coal Hill School, where Clara Oswald taught English class. However, Coal Hill first appeared in the first episode of Doctor Who, “An Unearthly Child”, in 1963. Though the spinoff premiered on October 22, 2016 in the UK, the eight episodes will air here in the U.S. for the first time beginning April 15th. Due to its “limited audience” release’s poor ratings, it’s not clear whether the series will be renewed. Actually, rumor has it that the BBC have already canceled the series, but haven’t officially announced it since it has not even aired in the U.S. Keep that in mind, in case you plan to tune-in.
