Tonight DC premieres its first comedy series, Powerless, and it’s a welcome relief from the gloom and doom of the feature films.
The CW’s DCTV Universe has struck a nice balance between the superhero melodrama and those lighter fun moments. Though Powerless takes place in a world full of superheros (and villains), it’s really about the little guy. Think Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., with Coulson and company cracking jokes about Iron Man, Cap and Thor. These quirky folks work ‘behind the scenes’ for Bruce Wayne’s goofy cousin, played by the wonderful Alan Tudyk. In the series premiere we meet Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens). She’s a glass is half full type, that hopes to inspire her team to create unique products that protect innocent bystanders from collateral damage. Remember all that destruction in Man of Steel? Ouch!
Powerless is an amusing half hour series, that definitely does not take itself too seriously. There are tons of Easter eggs, references and shout-outs to the big players in the DC universe. The cast is highly entertaining and will definitely make you chuckle at their shenanigans. If you need a good laugh, I say tune-in to this one! DC has never been more hysterical.
Here’s the show’s official description…
In a world where humanity must cope with the collateral damage of Super Heroes and Super-Villains, Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens) begins her first day as Director of Research & Development for Wayne Security, a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises that specializes in products that make defenseless bystanders feel a little safer. Full of confidence and big ideas, Emily quickly learns that her expectations far exceed those of her new boss (Alan Tudyk) and officemates, so it will be up to her to lead the team toward their full potential and the realization that you don’t need superpowers to be a hero. Danny Pudi, Christina Kirk and Ron Funches also star.
Catch the series premiere of Powerless tonight at 8:30/7:30c on NBC.
